Just like the name of the group suggests, No Other Name is a bold new group in the Christian music industry and is quickly being recognized as one of the best from on-lookers. Taking note of the group was the Dove Awards, which led to the group being nominated for a Dove before even releasing an album. Now with an official album, Laura Allen, one-third of the group, eagerly shares about the much anticipated debut.

The debut is filled with songs that encourage Christians to live out their faith with mobility, fulfilling the great commission, and also looks to encourage Christians to look beyond this world, as the album title, The Other Side suggest.

The Other Side, which is also the title of the second song on the album, portrays the overall sentiment of the project.

“Its actually the very last song that we recorded, that we decided to add on this particular album and it was brought to us by the guy that was going to be producing the last couple of tracks for us and we had already had our songs picked out. We already had it nailed down – these are the three more songs we’re going to add...and then we heard this one. He emailed it to us. He said listen to this and see what you think.”

“And we all three, we were all three in separate places, listened to it at about the same time and we were calling each other going ‘Have you listened to this yet? This song is amazing. You have to listen to this song.’ “

“And, just, all three fell in love with it...”

Listening to the song and the beautiful message within, the trio was willing to get rid of one of the previously selected songs in order to include the newly cherished song.

“Its just about our hope as Christians, that this world is not all there is. There is so much more waiting for us...Its just a song about hope and encouragement, and seeing our loved ones again, and being with our Savior face to face. And we decided we wanted to name the whole album that after we cut the song and really just continued to love it more and more. We thought we wanted to name the whole album that, [with] that same idea that this is not all there is.”

The group comprised of brother and sister, Laura and Sam Allen and Chad Smith, who is like a brother to the siblings, have utilized their experiences and love for missions as inspiration for the album.

“We’ve had the opportunity to be involved in international missions in a lot of ways. About two years ago, I would say, God started opening up doors in that area and just kept opening doors and kept opening doors and we were already doing this – we’ve been doing what we do now for a lot of years.”

“And we would go do concerts and go to churches and put on concerts and encourage people through music and stuff and all of that was good and wonderful and worthy but it seemed like about two years ago God just started stirring in us – hey, I want you to do something that’s even more eternal, that’s even more, I don’t want to say more important but just more impactful in the long term.”

“And so, He started to just opening up doors to be involved in missions and to encourage others to be involved in missions, [to] encourage just the average church member, who maybe doesn’t even know what God is doing around the world, not only what He is doing but how they can be apart of it. And it just has led to all sorts of opportunities that we couldn’t have ever imagined that we would get to be apart of, just seeing work around the world and like traveling to various places around the world and being able to be a small part of some of that work and then recording and writing songs about that them too.”

“I think that’s kind of the theme that you don’t hear to much, you know like on Christian radio and stuff. A lot of songs are worship based or maybe encouraging to the Christian and stuff. All that is wonderful. We love those songs too, but you don’t hear a lot of songs that are challenging to the church [saying] ‘Hey get out there and do it. Do the work‘ you know?”

“And so, its kind of just become our little nitch that we have a few songs that touch on that. Those songs really have opened the door for us to really put our money where our mouth is a little bit, not that we all can’t be doing more. Goodness knows, we could do more than we do. In a lot of ways when we’re encouraging others, we’re just as much encouraging ourselves to do more than what we’re already doing.”
