The Newsboys
Gearing up for the largest tour they’ve had as a band, the Newsboys' Michael Tait shares about the passion behind the tour and album, how they spiritually prepare and a sober look at life on the road.
No rookie to life on the road, former DC Talk vocalist and now lead vocalist for the Newsboys, Michael Tait has been doing this for a while and his passion is still burning strong.
Preferring to think of concerts as an “experience” Tait and the Newsboys are heading out on the road to share a message that they are passionate about, which is echoed in the newest album name and that of the tour: “God’s Not Dead.”

Some may wonder why such a strong title.
“Well in the name – obviously in today’s society you have the argument of whether God’s alive, if He exist...people call Him an energy, a powerful force. So in society today its up for debate but as a believer, I find that debate a bit offensive because I know in my heart that my God’s alive, working in the world today, sitting on the throne ruling, overseeing the universe,” Tait told BC.

The “God’s Not Dead World Tour” will kick off in Holland, MI on January 12, 2012. For the Newsboys, preparing for a tour is more than just musical preparation but it also involves spiritual preparation.
Tait sees this process the same as Christians in other professions preparing to be effective in what they do professionally as a person of faith.
“We stay in the word, feed ourselves good sermons from our pastors back home at our churches. We constantly try to own up on the subject of God, even some philosophies from people from other religions – what the said in the past so we can be ready to answer any question that comes our way.”
Tait, a preacher’s son and youngest of nine children, has been passionate about God since his teenage years, getting “fired up” in his high school days. The burning passion inside of him is apparent whenever he performs.
For sure passion is one thing that keeps him going during extended periods on the road, which has its ups and downs.
“Being home, being off the road, you can’t wait to get back on the road. Being on the road and you’re not at home, you can’t wait to get back home. Its beautiful,” he laughs.
“You want to be home but when you’re at home you go ok my bed feels good [and] I get to see my girl. Oh my God! But that’s whatever and guess what. I love ya’ll but I want to go to work...”
“You always want what you ain’t got,” he said jokingly.
A veteran of the music industry for over twenty years, Tait knows how to handle life on the road and will be giving his all during the 60-City tour.
